England Cricketers’ Cap-Off Moment: A Salute to Rohit & Kohli

1 month ago | 5 Views

England cricketers Brydon Carse and Harry Brook removed their caps prior to shaking hands with Indian captain Rohit Sharma following the first ODI at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday. After India secured a four-wicket victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, Rohit led the Indian team in the customary post-match handshake. He first greeted England's captain Jos Buttler, followed by Joe Root, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, and Phil Salt. When it was Carse's turn, he respectfully took off his cap, a gesture that was mirrored by England's vice-captain Brook, who was the final player in line.

Virat Kohli, absent from the series opener due to a knee injury, was the next Indian player in line and was also seen exchanging handshakes with the English cricketers.

While it is customary for players to remove their caps before greeting opponents, it is not obligatory, nor does failing to do so signify disrespect.

However, fans on social media interpreted Carse and Brook's actions as a special tribute to Rohit Sharma. One fan commented on X, "Carsey and Brooke took off their hats before shaking hands. The respect Rohit has earned is incredible..." alongside a video of the moment.

After the match, Rohit stated that the Indian team does not have any specific goals to achieve ahead of the Champions Trophy but aims to continue performing well, as they did against England in the first ODI.

Despite a slight stumble towards the end of their modest 249-run chase, where they fell from 221/3 to 235/6, India delivered an impressive performance to secure a 1-0 lead with a four-wicket win.

"Nothing specific. Overall as a team, I just want us to keep ensuring that we are consistently doing the right things. There is nothing particular that we aim to achieve," Rohit conveyed to the broadcaster after the match.

We aim to address all aspects related to bowling, batting, and similar elements. Today, we largely succeeded in this endeavor; however, I believe we should not have lost those wickets towards the end.

"It would have been beneficial, but once again, the players are attempting to exert pressure on the bowlers, and in the process, such incidents can occur," he remarked.
