Emma Raducanu endured a distressing experience during her second-round match at the Dubai Tennis Championships on Tuesday. While competing against Karolina Muchova, the British tennis player appeared visibly unsettled upon spotting a man in the audience who had been accused of stalking her.

The 2021 US Open champion sought the umpire's assistance to address the situation and was seen in tears as the individual concealed himself behind the umpire’s chair. Her opponent offered her consolation during this troubling moment.

Following the incident, the WTA issued a statement confirming the occurrence. The statement read, “On Monday, February 17, Emma Raducanu was approached in a public area by a man displaying fixated behavior. This same individual was later identified in the front rows during Emma’s match on Tuesday at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and was subsequently removed from the venue. He will be prohibited from attending all WTA events pending a threat assessment.”

“Ensuring player safety is our utmost priority, and we provide guidance to tournaments on security best practices for international sporting events. The WTA is actively collaborating with Emma and her team to ensure her safety and offer any necessary support. We remain dedicated to working with tournaments and their security personnel globally to uphold a secure environment for all players.”

Reports indicate that the 22-year-old was approached by the same man at her hotel, where he handed her a letter.

In the meantime, Raducanu expressed her gratitude to fans for their support, stating, “Thank you for the messages of support. It was a challenging experience yesterday, but I’ll be alright and am proud of how I returned to compete despite the unsettling start to the match. I appreciate Karolina for her sportsmanship, and I wish her the best for the remainder of the tournament.”

Ultimately, Raducanu lost the match with a score of 6(6)-7(8) 4-6, resulting in her elimination from the tournament.
