The evening did not favor Travis Head, who appeared to struggle on the challenging Wankhede pitch against the Mumbai Indians on Thursday, delivering one of the slowest innings of his IPL career. However, he did experience a stroke of luck when he was dismissed twice in consecutive deliveries by Hardik Pandya, only to be saved by the umpire's call of a no ball.

This incident occurred on the fourth delivery of the 10th over during Sunrisers’ innings in Mumbai. Hardik bowled a fuller delivery aimed at the stumps, which Head attempted to whip off his pads, resulting in a catch to Will Jacks at deep mid-wicket. The Mumbai Indians captain and the team's owners and staff erupted in celebration, but the excitement was cut short when the siren sounded. Initially, neither Hardik nor Head, who had already begun his walk back to the dugout, acknowledged the siren until umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal confirmed the no ball. This left Hardik and Nita Ambani in disbelief.

On the very next ball, Head was dismissed again, edging an outside delivery to Mitchell Satner at long-on, but he was spared due to the free hit rule.

Sunrisers Hyderabad scrape to 162/5

Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to reach a total of 162/5. Head ultimately scored 28 runs off 29 balls, becoming the second-fastest player to reach 1000 IPL runs, achieving this milestone in just 575 balls, which is 30 balls more than Andre Russell's record.

Throughout most of the innings, the Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen found it difficult to adjust to the Wankhede surface, as the Mumbai spinners effectively utilized the grip and turn available. The Mumbai Indians' dominance was such that the first six of the match did not occur until the 18th over. Nevertheless, a strong finish, with 57 runs scored in the last five overs, provided SRH with a much-needed boost. In the final over, Aniket Verma hit two sixes, and Pat Cummins added another, contributing a crucial 22 runs off Pandya.
