Dinesh Karthik Bowls Over Pitch Prep: RCB to Confront Curator After Home Woes
11 days ago | 5 Views
Dinesh Karthik, the batting coach for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has recently expressed his concerns regarding the pitch conditions in the ongoing IPL 2025. The former wicketkeeper-batter for India and RCB voiced significant apprehensions about the surfaces at Chinnaswamy Stadium, particularly after the team faced consecutive losses in their home matches. Despite their requests for pitches conducive to batting, Karthik noted that the team was instead presented with difficult conditions that diminished the effectiveness of their strong batting lineup.
"In the initial two matches, we requested quality pitches. However, the reality has been quite the opposite, making it tough to bat. We will strive to perform to the best of our abilities with what we have," Karthik stated during the post-match press conference.
In both matches against Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals, RCB managed to score below par totals of 169/8 and 163/7, respectively, as key batsmen struggled on surfaces that provided minimal pace and bounce. Karthik indicated that the franchise would soon engage in discussions with the stadium curator regarding the playing conditions.
"We will have a conversation with him (the curator). We have confidence in his ability to manage the pitch. However, this surface has not been favorable for the batsmen. It has proven to be a challenging pitch, as evidenced in both games we have played," he added.
Not the first to speak out
Throughout the season, discussions regarding the playing surfaces have been a focal point in press conferences. Chandrakant Pandit, the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, was among the initial voices to address the pitch conditions at Eden Gardens, indicating that they did not align with the team's strengths.
Earlier this week, the Bengal-based newspaper Sangabad Pratidin reported that the KKR management was significantly frustrated by the ongoing disputes over pitch preparations. This tension led one of their officials to make a sarcastic remark to a member of the Cricket Association of Bengal, suggesting that the curator should be awarded the Player of the Match following KKR's narrow four-run defeat to Lucknow Super Giants at home.
Stephen Fleming of Chennai Super Kings has also voiced his concerns regarding the pitches at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Additionally, Zaheer Khan, the bowling coach for LSG, remarked after a loss to Punjab Kings earlier this season that the Lucknow pitch favored the visiting team more than the home side.
