A significant meeting unfolded between the mentor and his protégé as MS Dhoni and Rishabh Pant took the spotlight during the toss at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday. The two shared smiles upon their encounter, prompting Murali Karthik, a broadcaster, to remark, “This Guru-Shishya saga continues!”

As they prepared for a joint photograph, Dhoni playfully nudged Rishabh Pant with his shoulder, reminiscent of the camaraderie often seen among school friends. In response, Pant radiated joy and embraced the CSK captain warmly.

Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first. Following the toss, he remarked, “We are fortunate to receive excellent support wherever we play. A heartfelt 'thank you' to all our fans. We prefer to bowl first due to the potential for dew. The pitch tends to improve in the second innings. It is crucial to maintain the right mindset. Our batting has lacked consistency. We need to be strong with the ball. A positive attitude is essential, and we must be ready to play aggressive shots. It’s only a matter of time. We have made a couple of changes, with Overton and Rasheed replacing Ashwin and Conway.”

On the other hand, Pant expressed, “It’s truly remarkable. We would have opted to bowl first as well. In Lucknow, the pitch is slower during the first innings but improves over time. Our main focus regarding CSK is to avoid giving them any opportunities; we must give our all. We aim to play quality cricket. There is just one change - Marsh returns in place of Himmat Singh.”

Dhoni resumed his role as captain of CSK prior to their last match against KKR, stepping in due to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, which has sidelined the opener for the remainder of the tournament. Unfortunately, Dhoni’s return to captaincy did not yield the desired results, as CSK suffered an eight-wicket defeat, marked by a significant batting collapse that left them at 103/9 after 20 overs.
