David Warner Shuts Down Hate Allegation Against Indians: ‘First I’ve Heard of It’
4 days ago | 5 Views
David Warner, the renowned former opener from Australia, is preparing for his inaugural season in the Pakistan Super League this year, where he will serve as the captain of the Karachi Kings. Throughout his distinguished career, Warner has been a key player in various franchise leagues but was previously unable to join the PSL due to a busy schedule. Following his retirement from international cricket last year, he is now fully available to participate in the tournament.
At his first press conference before the Karachi Kings' opening match against Mohammad Rizwan's Multan Sultans, Warner encountered a provocative question from a reporter in Pakistan.
The reporter suggested that many individuals from India had criticized Warner for joining the Pakistan Super League after he was not selected during the IPL auction last year. He then sought Warner's response to the alleged "hate" being directed at him. In response, the former Australian opener stated that this was the first time he had encountered such a claim.
"This is the first I've heard of it. From my perspective, I want to play cricket. There's an opportunity to come to PSL. My international calendar didn't allow me to come to PSL due to the timings. Now, I want to compete, captain the Karachi Kings, and hopefully, we are able to win the trophy," Warner expressed.
In the previous IPL season, Warner played for the Delhi Capitals and took over as captain in the 2023 edition after Rishabh Pant, the then-captain, was unable to participate due to a car accident. The franchise subsequently released Warner prior to the auction in November.
Warner's IPL record
Warner maintains his status as the most accomplished overseas batsman in the IPL, amassing a total of 6,565 runs across 184 matches. During his tenure in the league, he has played for two franchises: Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. His most notable performances occurred while playing for SRH, where he captained the team to a championship win in 2016.
In the overall rankings, Warner is positioned as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the league, trailing only behind the Indian trio of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma.
