David Miller Slams ICC for Scheduling Controversy; Endorses NZ to Overcome India

South African cricketer David Miller expressed his frustration with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the ongoing scheduling issues surrounding the 2025 Champions Trophy. This statement followed his team's brief trip to Dubai, which culminated in a semifinal defeat to New Zealand on Wednesday in Lahore. Miller's remarks came after he scored a century, which ultimately proved futile in South Africa's 50-run loss while chasing a target of 363 runs.

The unusual scheduling of the Champions Trophy necessitated that both South Africa and Australia travel to Dubai after completing their group matches to better prepare for a potential semifinal against India. However, following India's victory over New Zealand in their final Group A match, the Indian team advanced to face Australia in the semifinals, compelling the South African team to return to Pakistan for the second semifinal. This situation arose due to India's decision not to travel to Pakistan for the tournament, citing political and security concerns, which resulted in the ICC relocating all matches to Dubai.

Miller commented, "While the flight is only an hour and 40 minutes, the necessity of making that trip was far from ideal." He elaborated on the challenges faced, noting, "We had to fly shortly after a game, arriving in Dubai at 4:00 PM, only to return at 7:30 AM. The timing was not conducive to recovery. Although it wasn't a long flight, the circumstances were still far from ideal."

Miller's impressive performance included an unbeaten century off 67 balls, but it was not enough to secure victory for South Africa, who were defeated by New Zealand. The Black Caps will now face India in the final on Sunday in Dubai, having set a record Champions Trophy total of 362-6, bolstered by outstanding centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson.

Miller backs New Zealand to beat India

Despite India's status as the clear favorite in the final following an undefeated journey throughout the tournament, Miller expressed his belief that he will support the Kiwis in their quest for an upset on Sunday.

Miller anticipated a "fantastic" final, stating: "To be candid, I believe I will be rooting for New Zealand."
