Former Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins drew inspiration from former WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan on Thursday, as she provocatively engaged with the Melbourne crowd following her second-round victory over Australian qualifier Destine Aiava. The 10th-seeded American triumphed in a thrilling three-set match, winning 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-2 at Show Court Arena.

With an Australian player on the court, the local audience rallied behind Aiava, particularly as she rallied from a set down to push the match into a decisive third set. This atmosphere created a challenging environment for Collins, who had previously reached the final of the tournament in 2022, where she notably defeated Iga Swiatek in straight sets before succumbing to former world number one Ashleigh Barty in the final.

During the match, an irritated Collins urged the crowd to "shut up" after receiving cheers following her double fault.

Ultimately, Collins had the final word, advancing to the third round with her victory. In celebration, she cupped her ear and blew kisses to the crowd, taunting them with the phrase, "How about that?!" This elicited boos from the audience as she shook hands with Aiava and the chair umpire, continuing her provocative display. She concluded her post-match interview by showcasing her third-round earnings in an unusual manner.

Collins remarked, "I may very well accept that substantial paycheck," as the event progressed. "Coco (Gauff) and I truly enjoy a luxurious five-star getaway. Therefore, a portion of that earnings will be allocated for that purpose.

"I appreciate all of you for being here and supporting us this evening."

After a short discussion regarding her upcoming competitor — fellow American, No. 19 Madison Keys, who was a finalist at the 2017 U.S. Open — Collins redirected her focus to the audience, expressing, "Thank you all. I truly appreciate it. Much love to you!"
