A significant collision occurred between Sydney Thunder players Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft during their Big Bash League (BBL) match against the Perth Scorchers at Perth Stadium on Friday. The incident transpired in the 16th over of the first innings as both players converged while attempting to catch a high ball.

The two players collided head-on, resulting in both falling to the ground. Daniel Sams exhibited immediate signs of concussion and required assistance to be removed from the field on a stretcher. Meanwhile, other Sydney Thunder players were observed calling for paramedics.

It is noteworthy that Sams had successfully gathered the ball while retreating, but Bancroft, approaching from the opposite direction, inadvertently caused the catch to be missed.

As Sam was being stretchered off, Cameron Bancroft exited the field with a bloodied nose. Regarding Daniel Sams, he necessitated further medical evaluation and was transported off the field via a medical.

The play was halted for 12 minutes, with Perth Scorchers' score reading 138/4.

Exhibiting signs of a concussion and potential fractures

Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams were replaced in the BBL match against the Perth Scorchers. In an official announcement, Sydney Thunder stated, "Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams of Sydney Thunder have been substituted for tonight's BBL14 match against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium."

The statement further noted, "Both players are alert and communicating, exhibiting symptoms of concussion and potential fractures. They have been taken to the hospital for evaluation. Ollie Davies and Hugh Weighben have been brought into the Thunder lineup."

Mel Jones, who was providing commentary at the time, described the incident as severe, expressing significant concern for Daniel Sams.

“There has been a serious collision. There is considerable worry here. Both players were fully committed to the ball, focused on it, and did not see each other approaching. This is precisely what one hopes to avoid," Mel Jones remarked during her commentary for Fox Cricket.

“Medical personnel responded immediately. The primary concern is regarding Daniel Sams. However, there are positive signs as Cam Bancroft is on his feet and walking off the field. It appears there may be some injury to his nose. Their bravery is commendable – both players were entirely focused on the ball," she added.
