India, Dec. 30 -- Cristiano Ronaldo has recently drawn significant attention due to his remarks regarding the French top division, Ligue 1. While attending the 2024 Global Soccer Awards in Dubai, the Portuguese international criticized the standard of football in Ligue 1, asserting that the Saudi Pro League surpasses it. Currently, Ronaldo is playing for Saudi club Al Nassr. "The Saudi Pro League is superior to Ligue 1, without a doubt. I am not making this claim simply because I play here. I am indifferent to public opinion on the matter. Players should come here and they will quickly understand. Just attempt to sprint in temperatures of 38, 39, or 40 degrees," he stated.

"Come and witness it for yourself. If you doubt my words, come and see. In France, there is only PSG; the rest are finished. No one can compete with them because they possess the most financial resources and the top players," he continued.

In response to Ronaldo's comments, Adil Rami, a 2018 FIFA World Cup champion and former French player, criticized the ex-Real Madrid star, inviting him to experience Ligue 1 firsthand. "CR7, we may admire him, but that does not mean that everything he says is the truth simply because of his illustrious career! The players in Saudi Arabia are out of shape. They consume fast food daily! Come to France in poor condition and see how long you endure! You fail to recognize the level of Ligue 1," he remarked, as reported by ActuFoot.

Additionally, Ligue 1 took the opportunity to mock Ronaldo by sharing an image of Lionel Messi holding the 2022 FIFA World Cup trophy, which he won under similar circumstances in Qatar while representing PSG.

Throughout his illustrious career, Ronaldo has secured five Ballon d'Or awards, three UEFA Men's Player of the Year honours, and four European Golden Shoes, and has been recognized as the world's best player by FIFA on five occasions.
