Cricket Legend Backs Rohit Sharma for Champions Trophy Glory

Rohit Sharma made a significant return to form during the recently concluded three-match ODI series against England. The 37-year-old batsman achieved a century in the second ODI, alleviating the mounting pressure on the Indian captain following a disappointing Test series against Australia. Rohit demonstrated his exceptional skill by securing a three-figure score.

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has expressed his confidence in Rohit Sharma, predicting that he will be the top run-scorer in the forthcoming Champions Trophy, set to commence on February 19 in Karachi.

India is placed in Group A, alongside the host nation Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma and his team will kick off their campaign on February 20 in Dubai against Bangladesh.

“I firmly believe India will win the Champions Trophy. I am backing their captain, who has regained his form. I predict Rohit Sharma will be the leading run-scorer in the tournament,” Clarke stated during a recent episode of the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.

“It is encouraging to see him scoring runs again. India certainly needs him,” he added.

Although Rohit Sharma recorded two subpar scores in the ODI series against England, his century stood out as the highlight of the series, which India won decisively with a 3-0 victory.

‘Jofra will be leading wicket-taker’

Michael Clarke is of the opinion that Jofra Archer will emerge as the top wicket-taker in the series. Nevertheless, he expresses doubts regarding England's overall performance in the Champions Trophy.

For context, England is placed in Group A, competing against Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan.

“I am inclined to select Jofra Archer as the leading wicket-taker. I am familiar with England's capabilities; I do not anticipate them performing exceptionally well, but I regard him as a superstar. I believe Jofra will pose significant challenges for opposing teams. Therefore, I am designating him as my leading wicket-taker," stated Clarke.

The captain who led Australia to victory in the 2015 World Cup also nominated Travis Head as the Player of the Tournament. However, he believes that while Australia will reach the final, they will ultimately fall short of securing the championship.

“I am choosing Travis Head for Player of the Tournament. He has been in outstanding form. His performance in the IPL was remarkable, and he has also excelled during the Australian Test summer. After a brief hiatus in Sri Lanka, he is prepared to perform at his best once more. Thus, I am predicting Travis Head as Player of the Tournament, even though I suspect Australia may not win the final," added Clarke.
