Corbin Bosch Faces Backlash for Preferring IPL Over PSL: 'I Regret My Choice'
20 days ago | 5 Views
South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has received a one-year suspension from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after withdrawing from the tournament to join the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the ban on Thursday, alleging that Bosch violated his contractual commitments with the PSL team Peshawar Zalmi.
Bosch was selected by Zalmi during the January draft for the 2025 PSL season but chose to sign with the Mumbai Indians instead, filling the spot of fellow South African Lizaad Williams, who was sidelined due to injury. The overlap of IPL and PSL schedules this year prompted the PCB to take immediate disciplinary measures.
In its statement, the PCB declared: “The all-rounder will face a one-year suspension and will be ineligible for selection in next year’s Pakistan Super League.”
Previously, the board had issued a legal notice to Bosch, contending that his withdrawal after being drafted was a violation of the player agreement.
Following the announcement of his ban, Bosch, who has participated in various leagues globally, publicly expressed his regret over the situation.
“I sincerely regret my decision … and extend my heartfelt apologies to the people of Pakistan, the fans of Peshawar Zalmi, and the broader cricket community," Bosch stated.
"I fully recognize the disappointment my actions have caused ... but I am dedicated to learning from this experience and aspire to return to the PSL in the future with renewed commitment and the trust of the fans.”
PSL begins Friday
The ban is imposed just before the commencement of the PSL season on Friday. Although the IPL coincides with Pakistan's premier T20 tournament, the PSL will showcase numerous international talents, such as Australia's David Warner, New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, Tim Seifert, and Michael Bracewell, West Indies' Jason Holder, and South Africa's Rassie van der Dussen.
Currently, Bosch will be unable to participate in the 2026 edition of the PSL; however, he remains a member of the Mumbai Indians.
