Cooper DeJean celebrated a remarkable birthday, achieving the distinction of being the first player in Super Bowl history to either intercept a pass or score a touchdown on his birthday.

The 22-year-old cornerback made a pivotal impact in the second quarter by intercepting a poorly executed pass from Patrick Mahomes and returning it for a 38-yard touchdown, which propelled the Eagles to a commanding 17-0 advantage over the Chiefs.

Additionally, it was a significant day for Saquon Barkley, who turned 28 and established the single-season record for combined rushing yards in both the regular season and playoffs. Nevertheless, it was DeJean’s interception return for a touchdown that captured the most attention.

A historic Super Bowl moment

DeJean intercepted Mahomes by undercutting DeAndre Hopkins' route, resulting in a pick-six that marked the first of its kind in the Super Bowl since Robert Alford's interception return for the Falcons against Tom Brady's Patriots eight years prior. In that game, Atlanta infamously squandered a 28-3 lead; however, DeJean benefited from historical trends, as teams achieving a Super Bowl pick-six now hold a record of 13-1, with Tampa Bay winning Super Bowl 37 following three defensive touchdowns.

According to Sportradar, DeJean and Barkley became the 15th and 16th players to participate in a Super Bowl on their birthdays, with DeJean making history as the first to achieve either an interception or a touchdown on such an occasion.

In the first half, Barkley rushed for 31 yards on 12 carries, surpassing Terrell Davis' postseason-inclusive record of 2,476 combined rushing yards in a single season.

A second-round draft choice from Iowa, DeJean was instrumental in Philadelphia's defensive revival this season. His thrilling pick-six ignited celebrations in his hometown of Odebolt, Iowa, where fans gathered for a Super Bowl watch party to witness this historic moment.
