Clarke on Kohli's Skills: "He Could Achieve a Double Hundred Anytime"

Virat Kohli's subdued performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has drawn significant attention from analysts who are attempting to dissect his batting technique and mental approach, particularly in light of his modest total of 190 runs across nine innings in a venue where he typically excels.
This challenging series marks the culmination of a notably tough phase for Kohli in Test cricket, as he has maintained an average just above 30 over the past five years. Additionally, he was dismissed in the same manner on all eight occasions, consistently edging outside the off-stump, which has been a source of frustration for both fans and himself.
While some speculate whether Kohli should step aside for emerging talents, former Australian captain Michael Clarke firmly disagrees. On his Beyond23 Cricket podcast, Clarke expressed his support for Kohli, asserting that he still possesses significant value for Indian cricket.
"It's Virat Kohli! This player has the potential to score a double hundred at any moment. He is an exceptional talent. He should continue playing until he decides otherwise. If he were to retire from Test cricket today, the only team that would suffer is India," Clarke contended.
Clarke believes India should stick with Kohli
Clarke served as the captain of the Australian team during Kohli's impressive breakout on the notable 2014-15 tour and continues to have faith in Kohli's capacity to contribute runs for the team, despite his current struggles.
"If I were the captain of any team that included Virat Kohli, even knowing he hasn't scored as many runs as he would prefer, I would advocate for him to remain in my squad," stated Clarke.
Kohli's disappointing series, which featured one century alongside numerous innings where he failed to make a significant impact, is perceived by many as potentially his final appearance on Australian soil at the age of 37. His tendency to play at deliveries outside the off stump has led to suggestions that he should emulate the self-restraint exhibited by Sachin Tendulkar during his legendary 241* in Sydney. However, Clarke contended that Kohli possesses a different playing style than Tendulkar.
"Sachin was a distinct player compared to Virat Kohli. Throughout this Australian summer, many have pointed out that Sachin managed to perform in a Test match. He was dismissed while cover driving a few times but then showed restraint to score 200 at the SCG. Sachin and Virat are not the same player. Virat's greatest asset is his ability to make contact with the ball. He approaches the game in his unique manner," concluded Clarke.
