Chennai Rhinos Roar Back: Crucial Victory Over Telugu Warriors in CCL 2025
26 days ago | 5 Views
Following their victory against the Bhojpuri Dabanggs on home turf, the Telugu Warriors prepared for their second match of the week, this time against the Chennai Rhinos. The Warriors' captain was joined in the dugout by his older brother, Naga Chaitanya, who was keen to observe Akhil's performance. Unfortunately, it was not a day for Akhil to shine; he struggled to contribute runs, and the team ultimately fell short in their pursuit of 115 runs, granting the Chennai Rhinos their inaugural win of the tournament.
Vikranth won the toss and opted to bat first, a choice that quickly proved detrimental as the Rhinos lost two wickets in the very first over. However, with Vikranth still at the crease, he orchestrated a recovery alongside Ajay Rohan and later with Dasarathi, whose explosive innings of 35 runs off 14 balls propelled the team to a total of 125 for 3 after the first 10 overs. Both Dasarathi and Vikranth (61) remained not out.
The Telugu Warriors experienced a similar fate, losing their captain Akhil and Aadarsh in the opening over. Although Ashwin and Sachin appeared poised to stabilize the innings, Ashwin's dismissal marked Sharan's third wicket. Sachin Joshi narrowly avoided becoming Sharan's fourth victim but was dismissed after scoring 18 runs. Roshan, however, remained composed amidst the loss of partners, delivering a remarkable performance with 73 runs off 33 balls, which enabled the Warriors to reach 106 for 6, falling 19 runs short of the target.
The Rhinos commenced their second innings with a promising start, thanks to openers Prithvi and Ajay. However, Ajay was run out when the score reached 47, which disrupted their momentum significantly. Subsequently, they lost seven additional wickets, five of which fell in a brief span as the score moved from 78 to 82. Ultimately, the Rhinos could only accumulate a total of 87 runs. Before the final over, there was a lengthy interruption in play due to the Rhinos' objection regarding an alleged extra fielder from the Warriors, which was subsequently confirmed. Unfortunately, this commotion did not aid the Rhinos' cause.
As the Warriors began their pursuit of the target set at 115, their top order faltered. Akhil attempted to take control of the innings, achieving a top score of 27. However, this was insufficient, and despite Sachin contributing the same number of runs, the team struggled to maintain their momentum. The Warriors now find themselves tied on 2 points with both the Bhojpuri Dabangss and the Rhinos. The outcomes of the final group stage matches, along with the net run rate, will determine which teams advance to the semi-finals on March 1.
On February 16, the CCL will shift to Cuttack, where Punjab De Sher will face the Bhojpuri Dabanggs, followed by a match between the Mumbai Heroes and the Bengal Tigers. All matches will be streamed live on JioHotstar and will also be available on Sony Sports Ten 3.
