Mohun Bagan Super Giant has denounced the "unjust actions and aggression of security and management personnel" following an incident where a fan was reportedly left injured during their Indian Super League semi-final match against Jamshedpur FC. This match marked the first leg of the semi-final series, held in Jamshedpur, with MBSG scheduled to host the second leg in Kolkata on Monday.
In a statement released after the match, which concluded with MBSG trailing 1-2 in the aggregate score, the club expressed, "We at Mohun Bagan Super Giant firmly condemn the unjust actions and aggression exhibited by certain security and management personnel at the away stand of the JRD Tata Sports Complex on April 3, 2025. It is essential to remember that football cannot thrive without its fans."
This statement follows the circulation of several videos on X shortly after the match, showing away fans being forcibly removed from the stadium. Some footage depicted fans with injuries allegedly sustained from police baton charges. Additionally, there were reports of some Mohun Bagan Super Giant supporters making inappropriate gestures from the stands during the game.
Javi Hernandez's goal in injury time enabled Jamshedpur FC to take a 2-1 lead into the second leg of the semi-final, despite having only 26.9 percent possession against MBSG, the League Shield Winners. Javi Siverio opened the scoring for Jamshedpur in the 24th minute, but Jason Cummings equalized in the 37th minute before Hernández secured the win for the hosts in the 90th minute.
