The 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy signifies the revival of the 50-over tournament on the international stage and represents Pakistan's first major event in nearly three decades. In preparation for the tournament, Pakistan is implementing comprehensive security measures for all matches, which includes the arrangement of nine charter flights for the participating teams.

Since hosting the ICC tournament in the 1996 ODI World Cup, Pakistan has not been the venue for such an event. Although the country was originally scheduled to host the Champions Trophy in 2009, the event was relocated to South Africa following the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore that year.

As reported by The News, a Pakistani media outlet, the Punjab Police have mobilized over 12,000 officers and personnel to ensure security during matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi. This contingent includes 18 senior officers, 54 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 135 inspectors, 1,200 upper subordinates, 10,556 constables, and more than 200 female police officers.

Lahore is set to host three matches from February 22 to March 5, with over 8,000 officers and personnel assigned to security duties. This includes 12 senior officers, 39 DSPs, 86 inspectors, and 700 upper subordinates, along with 6,673 constables and 129 female constables. Rawalpindi will also host three matches from February 24 to 27, with more than 5,000 officers on duty, comprising six senior officers, 15 DSPs, 50 inspectors, 500 upper subordinates, 4,000 constables, and over 100 female personnel.

Karachi, alongside Lahore and Rawalpindi, will serve as another host city. It is scheduled to hold three group matches from February 19 to March 1 during the tournament. The Champions Trophy will commence on Wednesday at the National Stadium in Karachi, featuring a match between the defending champions Pakistan and New Zealand.

Special charter flights for fans

In addition to implementing security protocols, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the national airline of Pakistan, has declared the operation of nine special charter flights for fans and the teams involved. These flights will facilitate seamless transportation between Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore.
