Captain’s Dream Bowler! Bhuvneshwar Stuns Fans with Chinnaswamy Spell

On a night when the bowling lineup of Royal Challengers Bengaluru faltered under pressure, seasoned pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar distinguished himself with an impressive performance that garnered widespread acclaim on social media. Although the Gujarat Titans successfully chased down the 170-run target with 13 balls remaining, Bhuvneshwar’s four-over spell, yielding figures of 1/23, stood out as the sole highlight in an otherwise disappointing evening for the home team.

Fans took to X to commend the veteran bowler, praising his ability to maintain composure while the rest of RCB’s bowling attack, with the exception of Yash Dayal, struggled to contain runs at over 10 runs per over. Given the small boundaries of M Chinnaswamy Stadium and the challenging conditions created by dew, Bhuvneshwar’s economy rate of 5.80 was truly remarkable.

His early dismissal of GT captain Shubman Gill, who was caught at backward point, provided RCB with a brief glimmer of hope. However, a commanding 75-run partnership between Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler quickly extinguished any prospects of a comeback. Despite Bhuvneshwar’s commendable efforts, Bengaluru's bowling lacked support from the other end, enabling Gujarat to secure an eight-wicket victory.

Here’s how fans responded to Bhuvneshwar’s performance:

Bhuvneshwar was acquired by RCB for INR 10.75 crore during the IPL 2025 auction. After spending 11 years with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he notably contributed to their 2016 championship victory, he was released by the franchise. Throughout his tenure with the Sunrisers, he excelled in the bowling department, securing back-to-back Purple Caps in 2016 and 2017. In the season they clinched the title, he achieved an impressive tally of 23 wickets in 17 matches.

A remarkable achievement for Bhuvneshwar

In a significant milestone in his career, Bhuvneshwar's performance has also solidified his place in IPL history. With a total of 183 wickets in 178 matches, he matched Dwayne Bravo’s record, becoming the joint-highest wicket-taker among fast bowlers in the league's history.

The only players with more IPL wickets than the Indian pacer are spinners Yuzvendra Chahal (206) and Piyush Chawla (192).
