CSK Urged to Back But Restrategize for Struggling Indian Star – Srikkanth’s Take

Chennai Super Kings are currently under scrutiny following a series of defeats in their recent IPL 2025 matches. Ruturaj Gaikwad and his teammates have encountered difficulties while pursuing targets, particularly the 180-run mark, which has proven to be a significant challenge. The batting lineup's lack of potency has contributed to their struggles in the last two games. As a result, the five-time champions have faced criticism from both fans and analysts regarding their performance. Although head coach Stephen Fleming has come to their defense, it appears that adjustments are necessary for the team to regain their winning momentum.
Kris Srikkanth, a celebrated figure from the 1983 World Cup-winning team, has suggested that CSK should consider modifications to their playing XI, advocating for the inclusion of Devon Conway at the top of the batting order. He continues to support the beleaguered Ravichandran Ashwin but recommends a change in his bowling role.
“Conway should replace Jamie Overton, and Anshul Kamboj should also be brought into the lineup. Regarding Ashwin, I advise against dropping him, but he should not bowl during the powerplay. He can be effective between the 7th and 18th overs, and with Jadeja and Noor Ahmad, they can easily manage at least 10 overs. I would drop Tripathi and include Kamboj, with Conway taking Overton's spot,” Srikkanth stated on his YouTube channel.
The iconic Indian spinner rejoined Chennai Super Kings for a substantial fee of INR 9.75 crore, yet he has not met expectations thus far, having taken only three wickets in as many matches.
“Make Shivam Dube play in the XI”
In addition to Shivam Dube, Chennai's middle order has been lacking in strength, as the veteran MS Dhoni has not significantly contributed with the bat thus far.
Srikkanth recommended that CSK should include Dube in the playing XI rather than utilizing him as an Impact Player. He also advised the five-time champions to reinstate Mukhesh Chowdhary in the starting lineup.
"I would include Shivam Dube in the XI and introduce Andre Siddarth as an Impact Player. Mukhesh Chowdhary is also a viable option, having performed well for CSK in the past," Srikkanth remarked.
Following their defeat to Rajasthan in Guwahati, Chennai will return to their home ground at Chepauk to take on the Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
