Chennai Super Kings suffered their sixth defeat of the IPL 2025 season on Sunday, falling to their longstanding rivals, the Mumbai Indians, by nine wickets at Wankhede Stadium. This setback has positioned Chennai at the bottom of the points table, jeopardizing their chances of avoiding elimination from playoff contention.

The loss has prompted scrutiny regarding Chennai's strategic approach for the season, with former CSK players and cricket icons Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh voicing their concerns over the team's auction strategies.

During the match broadcast against Mumbai, former vice-captain Raina noted that the five-time champions had missed a crucial opportunity at the auction last November by failing to target players such as Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, who were available at that time.

Raina expressed his concerns regarding a potential flaw in CSK's auction strategy, noting the abundance of skilled players and promising young talents available. "Where are those players? They approached the auction with significant financial resources but failed to consider Pant, Iyer, and Rahul. I have never witnessed CSK facing such difficulties," he commented.

Harbhajan, who was also present in the commentary booth, echoed Raina's sentiments, suggesting that the team's challenges this season stem from the deficiencies of Chennai's talent scouts.

"CSK has historically been a strong team. During the auction, they had the chance to secure those players. Even among the emerging talents, there were none capable of making a significant impact. It may be beneficial to consult those in charge of talent scouting to gain insight into the reasoning behind the selections made," Harbhajan remarked.
