Mumbai Heroes vs Bhojpuri Dabanggs: Very high-scoring first innings by both teams

Manoj Tiwari won the toss and opted to field first, expressing his intention to limit the Mumbai Heroes to the lowest possible score. However, Saqib Saleem and Rajeev Pillai had different ideas, forming an opening partnership that yielded 51 runs. Following the dismissal of Rajeev, the team faced further challenges with the quick departures of Sharad Kelkar and Saqib. At one point, Sidhanth Muley had to retire due to injury but later returned to the crease, providing stability alongside Shabir Ahluwalia. Despite the challenges and some effective bowling, the team maintained a run rate of approximately 10 runs per over for most of the innings. Sidhanth remained composed even after Shabir's exit and aggressively scored 26 runs in the final over before being run out with just one ball remaining. Ultimately, the Mumbai Heroes concluded their innings with a total of 125 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

Achieving a score of 125 or more within 10 overs is a significant challenge; however, the Dabanggs approached this formidable task with composure. At the halfway mark, they had reached 78 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, positioning themselves favourably to meet the target. The two batsmen at the crease, Aditya Ojha and Asgar Khan, quickly advanced the score to 102-2 in the subsequent over, bringing the target within reach. Asgar, in particular, showcased exceptional form, making the Mumbai Heroes rue their decision to drop a catch earlier in the match. By the 7.5 over mark, the Dabanggs had not only met but exceeded the target, thanks to a splendid boundary from Asgar. The partnership between Asgar and Aditya, which yielded 105 runs, was only interrupted in the final over when Aditya was dismissed. Asgar concluded the innings unbeaten on 96, leading his team to a total of 150-3, thereby establishing a 25-run advantage.

During a discussion on the sidelines of the match, Sohail Khan, the owner of Mumbai Heroes, articulated that as the team prepared to bat in the second innings, their approach was one of urgency and determination, aiming to secure a substantial score. Shabbir embraced this mindset wholeheartedly, as evidenced by his aggressive performance against the Dabanggs’ bowlers, which was reminiscent of Asgar's earlier contributions. In the ninth over, Asgar effectively curtailed the scoring, allowing only three runs after a previous over that yielded 32 runs by Dinesh Lal. He later executed a direct throw to the stumps, resulting in Shabir's run-out in the final over. Additionally, Sharad was run out on the last ball of the over, leaving the Heroes with a total of 128 for 4, thereby establishing a lead of 103 runs.

A target of 104 was established for victory, prompting the Dabanggs to commence their efforts immediately. Opener Uday Tiwari scored 16 runs off 5 balls, but his innings was curtailed in the first over. Subsequently, Captain Manoj entered the fray alongside Asgar. However, the captain's stay at the crease was brief, leading to Aditya's return to support Asgar. As in the first innings, Asgar assumed control; this time, however, he was determined to expedite the chase and secure some much-needed rest, as it was already past midnight. After 5 overs, the team was 11 runs away from victory, standing at 93-2. Just 5 balls later, they achieved victory by 8 wickets, with Asgar finishing not out on 58.

At the conclusion of the first week, the Bengal Tigers secured 2 victories, while the Karnataka Bulldozers and another team each achieved 1 win. The upcoming week will feature a three-day cricket weekend from February 14 to February 16, with matches scheduled to take place in Hyderabad and Cuttack.
