CCL 2025: Bengal Tigers Crush Telugu Warriors to Maintain Unbeaten Streak

The reigning champions won the toss and opted to bat first, likely encouraged by the outcomes of Day 1 in the Surat leg of CCL 2025, where the victorious teams—Chennai Rhinos and Punjab De Sher—established targets that they successfully defended. To secure a favourable outcome, they would require a substantial score and must ensure that their rivals do not approach it closely. However, when the Tigers took to the crease, runs did not come easily, as the Warriors limited them to a mere 106 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, with the majority of the runs contributed by Jammy Banerjee, who scored 78.

The task appeared quite manageable for a team like the Warriors; however, the Tigers effectively limited their scoring to 87 runs for the loss of 5 wickets during their initial 10 overs. A mere 15-run lead may not seem significant if the second innings total is modest, yet Jammy played a pivotal role in ensuring the Tigers reached a total of 128 runs, contributing 54 runs in an unbeaten performance. Ultimately, the Tigers concluded their innings with a score of 147 runs.

Pursuing a target of 148 runs for victory is a considerable challenge for any team. Nevertheless, with prominent hitters Thaman and Aswhin Babu at the crease, there was optimism that they would provide a solid foundation for the Warriors, allowing the rest of the team to build upon it. Unfortunately, this was not the case on that day. Aswhin was dismissed without scoring, followed by Samrat, who also failed to contribute. Thaman managed only 18 runs before departing, leaving captain Akhil as the sole remaining player, as he witnessed partner after partner falls for inconsequential scores.

Akhil demonstrated remarkable perseverance as he led his team as close to the target as possible. However, lacking support from his teammates limited his efforts. Ultimately, the Warriors fell short by 16 runs, marking the conclusion of their journey in the tournament. With only one victory out of four group-stage matches, they did not accumulate enough points to secure a place in the top four.

The concluding match of the group stage will feature Punjab De Sher competing against the Mumbai Heroes. The match will be broadcast live on JioHotstar.
