Buttler on BCCI's Curbs: Family Travel Guidelines Don't Impact Us

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a comprehensive ten-point document for centrally contracted players, which includes directives concerning domestic cricket, family travel, limitations on personal staff, and additional matters. These guidelines were put into effect prior to the forthcoming five-match T20I series against England.
In anticipation of the first T20I against India in Kolkata on January 22, England's white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, addressed one of the guidelines related to family travel, emphasizing the significance of having the support of loved ones while on tour.
Following consecutive Test series defeats to New Zealand and Australia, the BCCI took decisive action to promote unity and team cohesion. The board imposed restrictions on the duration of family visits during extended tours.
The board reinstated its previous policy, permitting players to have their families accompany them for a maximum of 14 days, contingent upon the away tour exceeding 45 days.
"That's a loaded question, isn't it? I think it's important. We live in a day and age now, which is a very modern world, and I think it's great to be able to have families on the tour with you and try and enjoy that," Buttler remarked during a press conference on Tuesday.
"There's a lot of cricket, people spend a long time away from home, and I think post-COVID, all that's been highlighted as well. Absolutely, I don't think it affects the cricket too much," he continued.
Buttler further asserted that having families on tours does not interfere with professional responsibilities.
"I think it's something that is very manageable. Personally, from my point of view, I think it's really important to try and be able to share that with your family and lighten the load on being away from home," he concluded.
BCCI issues ten-point diktat
Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a set of ten guidelines applicable to all players under central contracts. It has been mandated that each player must participate in domestic cricket representing their respective state teams to remain eligible for selection.
According to a document obtained by Hindustan Times, the board indicated that players on tours exceeding 45 days may have the opportunity for their partners and children to join them for one visit per series, with a duration of up to two weeks.
"Players who are away from India for more than 45 days during international tours are permitted to have their partners and children (under 18) visit them for one occasion per series (based on the format), lasting up to two weeks. The BCCI will provide shared accommodation for the player and their family during this visit. All other expenses will be the responsibility of the player," the document specifies.
"Family visits must be arranged as a single occasion on dates mutually agreed upon by the coach, captain, and General Manager of operations. Any exceptions to this policy require prior approval from the Coach, Captain, and GM Operations. The BCCI will not cover additional expenses incurred outside the designated visitors' period," the document further elaborates.
