For the second time in two days, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin halted their concert in Mumbai in a bid to give a shoutout to India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. On Sunday, in their second show at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Martin paid an ultimate tribute to Bumrah as he played a clip of the star cricketer's iconic dismissal of England batter Ollie Pope during the 2024 home series.

At the kickoff concert in Mumbai on Saturday, Martin joked that Bumrah, who was hanging out backstage, told him to halt the show so he could bowl at him. He later confessed it was just a “lie” and said sorry for it. To pay tribute to the 31-year-old, he then played a clip of Bumrah’s stunning yorker that got Pope out last year.

This is significant. Yesterday on our program, we stated that Jasprit Bumrah wanted us to wrap up the show because he was backstage and prepared to bowl at me. That was completely untrue, and I sincerely apologize for it. Today, Bumrah contacted us with an important message. He said, 'Hey, I never authorized you to talk about me on your shows. I consider myself the best bowler in the world.'

Bumrah set for Champions Trophy appearance?

"Today, Bumrah conveyed a serious message to us. He said, 'Please note, I did not authorize you to mention me in your performances. I consider myself the finest bowler in the world. In light of this, we would like to convey our admiration and respect for Jasprit, the leading bowler on a global scale, by sharing this clip showcasing India's victory over England," Martin stated, combining humor with sincere appreciation.

The heartfelt gesture underscored Coldplay's ability to connect with local audiences and celebrate icons who resonate deeply with the crowd.
