India's inconsistent performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy have largely been attributed to their batting woes, which continued into the third Test in Brisbane. The team managed to secure a draw, thanks in part to some unfavorable weather, but the management is eager to see their batting lineup regain its form. Jasprit Bumrah has been the standout player for India throughout this series.
The fast bowler showcased his talent once again with a six-wicket haul in the first innings in Brisbane, followed by three more wickets in the second innings. In the second Test, where Australia leveled the series at 1-1, Bumrah claimed four wickets in the first innings. He was also named Player of the Match in Perth after taking five wickets in the first innings and adding three more in the second.
Brett Lee praises Jasprit Bumrah.
On Sunday at the Gabba, he took out both of Australia’s openers and then got rid of centurions Steve Smith and Travis Head with the new ball. Aussie cricket legend Brett Lee, known as one of the greatest fast bowlers ever, praised Bumrah as ‘world class’ during a chat on Fox Sports. He also had some thoughts on Mohammed Siraj, who’s been stepping up in the absence of Mohammed Shami. Shami is back in domestic cricket but has been dealing with knee problems that have slowed his return to the international scene.
“Jasprit Bumrah is definitely world class. It’s a shame they didn’t have Mohammed Shami, but I think Mohammed Siraj has been doing a solid job despite some doubts about him,” he mentioned.
“In my view, they’ve got a pace attack that’s pretty strong, but the reason people think he’s carrying the whole team is that he’s just that good.”
He's way ahead of any other bowler out there, and it's not a knock on the others, but that's just how incredible he is, he mentioned.
On Australian turf, Bumrah has taken 53 Test wickets at an impressive average of 17.15, leading all Indian bowlers. With Shami out, Siraj hasn't consistently delivered and has struggled to grab wickets when it matters most. Meanwhile, the team has been rotating between Harshit Rana and Akash Deep.
Bumrah's average against Australia's top seven is a stellar 9.81, while the other Indian bowlers have averaged 42.79 combined, highlighting Bumrah's significance and the effect of Shami's absence.
