Cristiano Ronaldo remains a prominent figure attracting interest from clubs worldwide, including a Brazilian team. The 40-year-old is determined to achieve the milestone of 1,000 professional goals, and the Paulista A1 club Portuguesa has shown a keen interest in being part of this endeavor. Since joining Al-Nassr in 2022, the Portuguese icon has demonstrated remarkable goal-scoring prowess in the Saudi Pro League. Although he has yet to secure team trophies in Saudi Arabia, he has consistently set new benchmarks for scoring in the league.
The president of Portuguesa has indicated his intention to persuade Ronaldo to join the club, emphasizing the importance of showcasing the Portuguese community in Brazil. Alex Bourgeois expressed his admiration for Ronaldo and noted that after successfully signing Nani in the past, he aims to attract the greatest Portuguese player by 2026.
In an interview with CNN, Portuguesa president Alex Bourgeois remarked: "Our goal is to reinforce and restore the pride of the Portuguese community here in Brazil, which was precisely the motivation behind our attempt to sign Nani. We are committed to pursuing this for the 2026 Paulistão, aiming to bring in a significant Portuguese player."
The club president acknowledged the challenges of recruiting one of football's most influential figures but remains undeterred in his efforts to discuss this ambitious prospect with Ronaldo.
"He is the greatest Portuguese player of all time and a leading global personality. It would be remarkable, but I can only imagine how many offers Cristiano Ronaldo receives that relate to Portugal. Nonetheless, he is undeniably a great Portuguese figure, and at some point, we will need to initiate a conversation."
Alex emphasized that this potential move could foster a connection between the people of Brazil and Portugal.
He added: "What we aim to achieve, as part of our strategic plan, is to establish a bridge between Brazil and Portugal through Portuguesa, making the club a channel for this connection. We are already making strides in this direction, and we believe in its significance."
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is in the final year of his contract with Al-Nassr and will be free to negotiate pre-contract terms with other clubs soon. However, the reports suggest that he has already made up his mind on signing a contract extension with Al-Nassr and has already agreed on terms for the new contract, which will help him earn around 183 million euros annually.
