Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg faced significant backlash on social media following the circulation of a video that ridiculed Pakistan's captain, Mohammad Rizwan. The footage drew attention to Rizwan's unique manner of speaking and his command of English, leading to widespread criticism of Hogg.

In the video shared on X, previously known as Twitter, Hogg is shown interviewing a content creator who bears a resemblance to Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, as he impersonates Rizwan. The video features the caption "Virat Kohli = Mohammad Rizwan" prominently displayed.

During the interview, Hogg inquired, "What are your thoughts on Virat Kohli?" The impersonator replied, "I and Virat are similar. He drinks water, I drink water. He eats food, I eat food. We are essentially the same; there is no distinction." He also referenced one of Rizwan's well-known phrases, "Ya win hai, learn," when discussing Pakistan's game plan.

Hogg then humorously complimented Rizwan's English skills, to which the impersonator responded, "Yes, everyone in Pakistan says my English is very good."

Following the video's viral spread, social media users condemned Hogg, labelling his actions as "pathetic" and expressing their disapproval.

Rizwan set to return in New Zealand ODIs

After a disappointing performance in the Champions Trophy, where the team led by Rizwan failed to achieve a single victory and was eliminated in the group stage, the captain was dismissed. The PCB selectors decided to drop Rizwan, along with Babar Azam, from the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, as a revamped Pakistan team commenced its preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Nevertheless, Rizwan has been retained as captain for the subsequent three-match ODI series, which is set to commence in Napier on March 29. Following this series, the players will return to Pakistan for the 2025 edition of the Pakistan Super League, scheduled to start on April 11. Rizwan will seek to demonstrate his capabilities in the T20 format once more, with the hope of rejoining the national team for the World Cup next year.
