A video featuring Saweety Boora, the gold medal-winning boxer from the 2023 World Championship, and her husband, former India kabaddi captain Deepak Hooda, has taken social media by storm. The clip, which appears to be a still from CCTV footage, shows Saweety charging at Deepak and grabbing his collar before others in the room step in to separate them.

Both Saweety and Deepak are accomplished athletes. Boora has earned three medals at the Asian Championships, including a gold in 2022, and is a two-time World Championship medalist, clinching gold in 2023 in New Delhi. Deepak, on the other hand, captained the Indian kabaddi team that secured bronze at the 2018 Asian Games and is regarded as one of the top all-rounders in the Pro Kabaddi League. After retiring, he joined the BJP.

Hooda stated, “While I was being questioned, my wife and her father began to use abusive language. They physically attacked me in front of the police, resulting in two injuries. Her maternal uncle Satyawan was also with them.”

Sub-inspector Ramesh Kumar from the Hisar Sadar police station reported that they have charged Saweety, her father Mahender Singh, and her maternal uncle Satyawan under several sections of the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita Act. These include Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 351(3) (criminal intimidation involving threats of death or serious injury), 296 (obscene acts), and 3(5) (joint criminal liability).

The couple's marriage has faced significant challenges recently, with Boora claiming that the Hisar police previously registered a case against him and his sister Poonam for dowry harassment, based on a complaint filed by Boora. In her report to Hisar SP Shashank Kumar Sawan, Saweety accused Deepak of mistreating her since their marriage in 2022.

She stated that just four days before their wedding, Poonam insisted on a Fortuner SUV as dowry instead of the Creta car her family had originally intended to give. To fulfill this demand and avoid social embarrassment, her father paid ?11.59 lakh to Toyota and took out a loan for the vehicle. However, after the wedding, Deepak allegedly started to mistreat her, while Poonam mocked her for not providing enough dowry.

Just a day prior, the Indian boxer claimed that the Hisar police did not take action against her husband Deepak Niwas Hooda regarding a dowry case she filed in February. Instead, they filed a complaint against her, her father, and her uncle for allegedly assaulting Hooda.
