Ben Stokes remains undeterred. In fact, he is more resolute than ever in his quest to elevate England's Test cricket to unprecedented levels. Shortly after the England and Wales Cricket Board announced that their Test captain, Ben Stokes, would be unavailable for "at least three months" due to a recurring hamstring injury, the all-rounder expressed a powerful response on social media.
"England Men's Test captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out of all cricket for a minimum of three months following further evaluations that confirmed he has torn his left hamstring. The Durham all-rounder is scheduled to undergo surgery in January. This injury was sustained during the third Test in Hamilton, part of England's recent 2-1 Test series triumph in New Zealand," stated the ECB.
Stokes conveyed that he has "much more left in the tank" and vowed to contribute "more blood and sweat" for his team, referencing a "Phoenix permanently inked" on his body.
"Another challenge to conquer…bring it on!!!!!!!! I have so much more left in this tank and an abundance of blood, sweat, and tears to invest for my team and this shirt. There’s a reason I have a Phoenix permanently inked on my body. I look forward to returning to the field to make an impact," Stokes posted on X.
How serious is Ben Stokes' injury
The 33-year-old all-rounder has already been excluded from next year's Champions Trophy one-day international tournament in Pakistan, as well as the upcoming white-ball tour of India.
Subsequent evaluations have disclosed the full severity of the injury, leading to Stokes being scheduled for surgery in January, according to a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Stokes sustained the injury while bowling during the third Test match against New Zealand in Hamilton last week.
He did not participate in the batting during the second innings of that match, as England faced a significant defeat by 423 runs, although his team still secured a 2-1 victory in the three-match series.
Earlier this year, he missed the home series against Sri Lanka and the first Test in Pakistan due to a hamstring tear in the same left leg, which occurred in August while he was batting for Northern Superchargers against Manchester Originals in the men's Hundred.
England's next Test match is scheduled at home against Zimbabwe in May. Following that, they will host a five-match Test series against India starting in June, leading up to their prestigious Ashes tour of Australia in 2025/26.
