Babar Azam to Media: Stop Calling Me ‘King’—I Haven’t Earned It Yet

Pakistan's prominent batsman Babar Azam has expressed his desire to avoid the title of "King," urging both fans and the media to concentrate on the team's development rather than individual recognition. In a statement to reporters following Pakistan's remarkable run chase against South Africa, Babar rejected the moniker, saying, "Please refrain from calling me King. I am not King; I have not reached that level yet. I have new responsibilities now."

While Babar minimized personal accolades, he readily acknowledged the outstanding contributions of Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman, whose remarkable 261-run partnership for the fourth wicket propelled Pakistan to an impressive six-wicket victory. Their centuries enabled Pakistan to achieve its highest-ever ODI run chase, successfully surpassing South Africa's formidable target of 353 runs with one over remaining.

"The team had a strategy, and I adhered to it. Agha and Rizwan performed exceptionally well today," Babar commented, praising his teammates for their pivotal roles in the match.

Despite experiencing fluctuations in form in recent months, the former captain remains committed to his growth as a player and leader. "What I have accomplished in the past is behind me. Each match presents a new challenge, and I must concentrate on the present and the future," he stated.

Babar's most recent international century was recorded on August 30, 2023, when he scored 151 runs off 131 balls against Nepal in Multan.

In the ODI against South Africa, Babar was dismissed for 23 runs off 19 balls. He assumed the role of opener for the team in the absence of Saim Ayub due to injury, partnering with Fakhar Zaman during the tri-series.

Pakistan set for Champions Trophy

With this decisive win, Pakistan has secured a place in the tri-series final against New Zealand, scheduled to take place in Karachi on Friday. This match will serve as their last One Day International before the Champions Trophy, commencing on February 19, which Pakistan will host alongside the United Arab Emirates.

India's team will conduct all of its matches in Dubai, having declined to travel to Pakistan due to security issues.
