Pakistan has experienced a tumultuous beginning to their two-match Test series against the West Indies, with Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel stepping in to salvage the innings following a significant collapse of the top order. On a wicket conducive to spin in Multan, Jaydon Seales excelled, claiming the wickets of Pakistan opener Muhammad Hurraira, key player Babar Azam, and Kamran Ghulam within the first 14 overs of the innings.

Babar was dismissed for a mere eight runs off 20 balls in the 14th over, marking 23 innings since he last achieved a Test century. However, it was his decision to review the dismissal that captured the attention of fans online. Babar was adjudged out caught behind off Seales' third delivery of the over. The ball was a remarkable delivery, angling in from outside the crease and then straightening after it pitched. A significant spike was detected on UltraEdge, resulting in Pakistan losing a review as well.

These were some of the reactions to the review on X:

Babar Azam has emerged from a significant decline in performance during Pakistan's recent Test series against South Africa, where he achieved a half-century in the second innings of the opening match and followed it with two additional half-centuries in the second Test.

Prior to these innings, Babar had not reached the fifty-run milestone in Test cricket since December 2022, when he recorded a score of 161 against New Zealand in Karachi. Subsequently, he struggled to exceed the 50-run mark in his next 19 Test innings, with his highest score during this stretch being a 41 off 79 balls against Australia in Melbourne in 2023.

In 2022, Babar accumulated 1184 runs across 17 innings, boasting four centuries and seven half-centuries, with an impressive average of 69.64. However, his performance has declined since then, as evidenced by averages of 22.66 at the conclusion of 2023 and 20.20 in 2024, with only one fifty recorded in these two years. Recently, Babar was excluded from Pakistan's Test squad after scoring merely 30 and 5 in the first match of the three-Test series against England, leading to his omission from the squad for the final two matches of the series, which Pakistan ultimately won 2-1.
