Babar Azam expressed his dissatisfaction with a journalist's line of questioning during the official press conference preceding the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The prominent batsman did not hold back in addressing the reporter's comments. The Pakistan team has faced significant criticism following a recent whitewash in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Additionally, Mohammad Rizwan and his teammates were unable to advance to the semi-finals of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy.
During their tour of New Zealand, Pakistan participated in five T20 internationals and three ODIs, securing only one victory out of eight matches. It is evident that the team's recent performance has been disappointing.
At the press conference before the PSL, a reporter inquired whether Babar Azam would only voice his concerns when Pakistan cricket reaches a critical point. The reporter asked, "Given the current performances of the team, when will you say something? Will you wait until the entire team is finished one day, then you'll speak, asking what is happening, what is not happening in the Pakistan team?"
In response, the former captain clarified that it is not his responsibility to publicly comment on national team issues, asserting that he speaks out when necessary.
“Where I need to speak, I do so. I will not sit in front of the media and dictate what should be done. When I have something to say, I express it in private. I will not come here and make a spectacle of what should be discussed on social media. That is not my role,” Babar Azam stated.
Babar Azam standout performer
The right-handed batsman emerged as Pakistan's top performer in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, which Pakistan lost 0-3. Babar Azam recorded scores of 78, 1, and 50 across the three matches, totaling 129 runs.
Babar was excluded from Pakistan's T20I squad for the five-match series against New Zealand, which the team ultimately lost 1-4.
Regarding the former captain of Pakistan, he is set to play for Peshawar Zalmi in the upcoming PSL 10, commencing on April 11. The team will face Quetta Gladiators in their opening match of the season on Saturday, April 12.
