Babar Azam Confronts South African Pacer Wiaan Mulder During Test Match

Tensions are escalating in the New Year's Test match between South Africa and Pakistan at Newlands, Cape Town. Babar Azam found himself embroiled in yet another intense confrontation, this time exchanging words with South African fast bowler Wiaan Mulder during the second innings. Following a follow-up request, Babar Azam and Shan Masood delivered an impressive performance, establishing the highest opening partnership for Pakistan against South Africa.

The pair surpassed the previous record of 137 runs set by Imran Farhat and Taufeeq Umar in Faisalabad in 2003. However, during the 32nd over, the situation intensified as Babar Azam confronted Wiaan Mulder.

On the fourth delivery of that over, Babar Azam advanced to drive the ball back towards the bowler. Wiaan Mulder managed to collect it during his follow-through but subsequently threw the ball at the batter.

Babar Azam was visibly displeased with this action and engaged in a verbal exchange with Wiaan Mulder. It is noteworthy that Babar was marginally outside the crease when Mulder made the throw, which was significantly off-target.

To diffuse the situation, Pakistan's captain Shan Masood, the umpire, wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne, and South African captain Aiden Markram intervened.

'Bairstow like run-out'

Throughout the entire episode, South African wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne made an attempt at a run-out of Babar Azam reminiscent of Jonny Bairstow's style. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena was observed conversing with the South African keeper during this incident.

Earlier on Day 1, Babar Azam was also involved in a confrontation with South African all-rounder Marco Jansen. The two were seen exchanging remarks as the Proteas batter approached the crease.

Returning to the match, Pakistan has mounted a commendable fightback after being asked to follow on. Babar and Shan Masood have delivered an impressive performance in the second innings.

In the first innings, Pakistan was dismissed for 194 runs, while South Africa had amassed 615 runs.

Ryan Rickelton achieved a remarkable score of 259, and both Temba Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne contributed centuries in the first innings.

South Africa currently leads the two-match series 1-0, having won the opening Test by two wickets in Centurion. The Proteas have already secured their place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, where they will face Australia at Lord's Cricket Ground from June 11-16.
