New Delhi: Hemanta Kumar Kalita, the former secretary general of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), along with treasurer Digvijay Singh, has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the suspension imposed by the federation's president, Ajay Singh.

Kalita and Singh were suspended on March 18 after being found guilty of "financial irregularities" during an investigation. This inquiry was conducted by former Delhi High Court judge Sudhir Kumar Jain, who was appointed by the BFI following allegations of unauthorized fund withdrawals, fraudulent billing, and misuse of authority against the two officials.

Although the case was scheduled to be heard by Justice Sachin Datta on Thursday, it was postponed until April 1. Justice Datta suggested that the case should be reviewed by a bench that specializes in election-related matters, as the issues raised are interconnected. Consequently, he instructed that the case be listed before Justice Mini Pushkarna, pending the chief justice DK Upadhyay's directives.

During the proceedings, the BFI, represented by senior advocate Anurag Ahluwalia, contended that the suspension was based on a report from a former Delhi High Court judge, which highlighted the financial misconduct of Kalita and Singh.

In their petition, presented by advocate Chaitanya Mahajan, the two officials claimed that their suspension violated the principles outlined in the BFI's constitution and was enacted without giving them a chance to defend themselves. They further asserted that the committee did not receive approval from the BFI's executive committee or the general house meeting, alleging that their removal was executed with malice.
