BCCI's Urgent Plan: India Players to Train for England Tests Amidst IPL 2025
1 month ago | 5 Views
After India’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar trophy series, which kept them out of the World Test Championship final, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is eager to bounce back in red-ball cricket as the new WTC cycle kicks off in June. To get ready for the upcoming tour of England, the BCCI is reportedly planning an intense training regimen for the Indian players.
As per Cricbuzz, the BCCI is looking to keep Rohit Sharma and his team engaged in Test cricket during the demanding IPL 2025 season. "Players might be asked to join in some red-ball practice sessions or take part in unique activities designed for specific players. The BCCI clearly wants to put an end to the string of losses in five-day matches," the report mentioned.
The IPL 2025 is set to run from March 22 to May 25, right before the Indian team heads to England for a five-match series starting on June 20 at Headingley. This tour will mark the beginning of India’s 2025/27 WTC campaign.
The roadmap was talked about during the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy match
The report mentioned that although BCCI officials are keeping the specifics of the plan under wraps, conversations have already kicked off. In fact, some key figures from the Indian team management and BCCI strategists got together during the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy match in Dubai on Sunday, with more meetings planned after the ICC tournament wraps up.
Typically, BCCI doesn't meddle with player responsibilities during the IPL, but given India's recent back-to-back Test series losses—first a 3-0 defeat at home to New Zealand, then a 1-3 loss in Australia, plus a string of away losses in England—the selectors might be gearing up to make some significant changes.
