The recent defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia has prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to implement stringent measures aimed at realigning Team India’s performance. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, along with other members of the support staff, is facing significant criticism due to the team's consecutive Test series losses to New Zealand and Australia.
In light of these developments, the BCCI convened a review meeting that included Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. Following this meeting, the board has issued ten directives to players who are centrally contracted.
Among these directives, participation in domestic tournaments has been deemed essential for selection. Additionally, the guidelines impose limitations on family travel, baggage allowances, and the presence of personal staff.
Players are also instructed to avoid personal photo shoots or endorsements during any series or tour. The announcement of these guidelines has led to widespread mockery on social media, with users humorously suggesting that the BCCI is treating the national team like a "school."
Humorous comments regarding morning assemblies and water breaks have gained traction on X, as netizens continue to poke fun at some of the newly established regulations.
What are the guidelines all about?
The BCCI has announced that any player who fails to adhere to these guidelines will be subject to disciplinary measures, which may include sanctions that prevent participation in tournaments such as the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Any exceptions to these rules must receive prior approval from head coach Gambhir and chief selector Agarkar.
The BCCI emphasized that these guidelines aim to foster discipline, unity, and a constructive team atmosphere. Additionally, the board has prohibited the presence of personal chefs, security personnel, and stylists during tours.
Players are required to utilize the team bus on match days, even if they have family members present at the venue.
In terms of domestic cricket, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill have confirmed their availability for the upcoming round of the Ranji Trophy, which commences on January 23.
Conversely, the availability of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and KL Rahul remains uncertain. Rohit has been training with Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad.
