BCCI has denied PCB's request for a hybrid model in the 2026 T20 World Cup, claiming there are no security concerns in India.

The Champions Trophy has hit a snag because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has turned down the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) request to avoid playing their matches in India during the tournament. At first, the PCB agreed to a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, proposing that Pakistan wouldn’t play any matches in India during the 2026 T20 World Cup, which India will co-host with Sri Lanka.
But according to a report from The Telegraph, the BCCI has made it clear they’re not on board with that idea. They think there’s no security threat in India and have rejected any talk of a hybrid format for future tournaments. The report mentions that the BCCI feels there’s no good reason to change how the tournament is set up based on security issues since they see India as a safe place for international cricket.
The disagreement about the hybrid model is a big deal since both boards are thinking about the ICC tournaments coming up. India will be hosting a bunch of major events soon, like the Women’s ODI World Cup next year, the T20 World Cup in 2026, and the Champions Trophy in 2029.
The PCB was hoping that a successful compromise for the Champions Trophy would pave the way for future tournaments, but it seems like the BCCI isn't interested in that at all.
The ICC is expected to meet on December 6.
The ICC initially hoped to resolve the issue through a series of negotiations, with a possible emergency board meeting scheduled for Thursday to discuss the hybrid model. However, the timing of the meeting remains uncertain, and an earlier meeting on Friday was adjourned after the PCB refused to accept the proposal.
The PCB had to go along with the hybrid model after the ICC warned that they might move the Champions Trophy somewhere else if they didn’t. Unfortunately, it looks like the PCB won’t get any financial help because of these changes.
