BCCI Revises Champions Trophy Travel Policy; Permits Indian Players' Families to Attend One Match in Dubai

Following a series defeat in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a stringent travel policy intended for implementation during the Champions Trophy. According to this policy, families of Indian cricket players were not permitted to accompany them to Dubai for the ICC tournament. However, a recent report from Dainik Jagran has indicated that the BCCI has made an exception, allowing players' families to attend one match in Dubai.

The Indian team is set to commence its Champions Trophy journey on Thursday at the Dubai International Stadium against Bangladesh. Subsequently, they will face the defending champions, Pakistan, on Sunday, followed by a match against New Zealand the following week. Even if India reaches the final, the tournament will span three weeks, which is why the BCCI initially restricted family travel. The policy states: "Players absent from India for more than 45 days during overseas tours can be joined by their partners and children (under 18) for one visit per series (format wise) of up to a two-week period."

BCCI backtracks on travel policy

A source disclosed to Dainik Jagran on Tuesday that players are now permitted to bring their families to Dubai for a single match, following discussions between a senior member of the team management and BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia prior to their departure to Dubai. The report further indicated that players are required to obtain permission from the BCCI, with the team management anticipated to provide a list to the board.

A BCCI official stated that the entire team is currently in Dubai, and no family members accompanied them initially. Up to this point, each player has been granted the opportunity to bring their family to just one match. However, the official did not confirm whether any player had requested permission. He emphasized that it is ultimately the player's decision whether to have their family attend a match, noting that many may opt not to bring their families for a brief visit.
