Central to this triumph was an old stalwart, Virat Kohli, who delivered an impressive unbeaten 59*, demonstrating that he has seamlessly continued from his previous season's form.

The opening match was a festive occasion for the IPL, highlighted by a ceremony where Kohli joined Shah Rukh Khan on stage for a dance, uniting two of the nation's most prominent figures. Kohli's immense popularity in India was further underscored when, during the chase, a fan breached security and fell at the feet of the cricketing icon on the Eden Gardens field.

While concerns were raised regarding player safety and the circumstances that allowed a fan to access the pitch, this incident highlighted the extraordinary admiration Kohli commands across the nation. Former IPL president Rajiv Shukla acknowledged this phenomenon by expressing his appreciation for the affection shown to Kohli on his X account.

Shukla commented, "Incredible fan support for @imVkohli," in response to a video that documented the event from the stands.

The footage shows a fan rushing onto the field and reaching Kohli before the stewards could intervene. The fan touched Kohli's feet and then fell at his feet, highlighting Kohli's esteemed position in Indian cricket.

Despite the unexpected encounter, Kohli embraced the fan before he was escorted away.

In the game, Kohli was instrumental in the successful chase, helping RCB reach the target of 175 in record time. Although Phil Salt was primarily responsible for the initial onslaught, Kohli contributed significantly as well. Notably, he hit two consecutive sixes straight down the ground off left-arm bowler Spencer Johnson.

RCB celebrated an early victory, much to the delight of their supporters. Krunal Pandya was named player of the match for his impressive performance, finishing with figures of 3-29.
