BCCI Naman Awards: Ashwin to Receive Special Accolade; Bumrah and Mandhana Named Best Players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to honor Ravichandran Ashwin with a special award this Saturday at the annual Naman Awards. Ashwin, who hung up his international boots in December 2024, will be recognized for his significant contributions to Indian cricket.

He announced his retirement after the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. At 38, he wrapped up his career as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in all formats, just behind Anil Kumble.

Jasprit Bumrah, who recently snagged the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year, will also be honored with the Polly Umrigar Award for Best Male International Cricketer. Meanwhile, Smriti Mandhana has been named the Best International Cricketer of the Year (Female).

Bumrah was a standout performer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking home the Player of the Series title with 32 wickets over five Tests.

On the women’s side, Smriti Mandhana was recognized as the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year after scoring 743 runs in 2024.

Sarfaraz Khan and Asha Shobhana will receive the Best International Debut awards for men and women, respectively. Additionally, Deepti Sharma will be acknowledged for leading in wickets during the 2023-24 season.

The legendary Sachin Tendulkar will be presented with the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony, which is now scheduled to take place in Mumbai, just a day before the fifth T20I between India and England at Wankhede Stadium.

With this honor, Tendulkar joins the ranks of cricketing greats like Ajit Wadekar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and others who have received this prestigious award.

Tanush Kotian and Shashank Singh are set to receive awards as well

Mumbai all-rounder Tanush Kotian is set to receive the Lala Amarnath Award for being the top all-rounder in the Ranji Trophy for the 2023-24 season.

Meanwhile, Shashank Singh will be honored with the Lala Amarnath Award for being the best all-rounder across all limited-overs formats in the same season.

Akshay Totre from Indore will be recognized as the Best Umpire in Domestic Cricket for the 2023-24 season. Additionally, the Mumbai Cricket Association will be celebrated for its outstanding performance in BCCI tournaments during this season.

In the 2023-24 season, Mumbai clinched several titles, including the Ranji Trophy, U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, U-14 West Zone Championship, senior women's T20 Trophy, women's U-19 One Day Trophy, and the men's U-19 All India Tournament.

Ricky Bhui from Andhra Pradesh will receive the Madhavrao Scindia Award for being the highest run-scorer in the Elite Group of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24, while Agni Chopra, son of director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, will take home the same award for leading in runs in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 Plate Group.
