Azam Khan Sends Message to Pakistan Team: "Look at Last Few Matches" Ahead of India Clash in Champions Trophy 2025
1 month ago | 5 Views
The Champions Trophy is just around the corner, and as usual, all eyes in the cricket world are on the epic showdown between India and Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on February 23. The rivalry is fierce, and fans from both sides are passionate. But in recent years, players like Rohit Sharma, Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Virat Kohli have shown a more friendly side, often sharing good vibes. Remember when Shaheen gifted Jasprit Bumrah something special after he welcomed his baby boy, Angad? Wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan shared his thoughts on the relationship between players from both teams, and it’s pretty heartwarming. Even with the fierce rivalry off the field, the players strive to keep things respectful.
"The rivalry is on the field. If you look at the recent India-Pakistan matches, they've been played in a really friendly spirit. There’s no disrespect involved. The players maintain a respectful relationship," Azam Khan mentioned to Hindustan Times after the Playoff between Desert Vipers and Sharjah Warriors. "If you’re receiving respect from one side, it’s only right to give it back," he added.
Azam, whose dad is former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, also described the India-Pakistan clash as 'just a game.' "I wish the Pakistan team all the best. At the end of the day, India versus Pakistan is just a game. There’s a lot of hype because it’s such a big match. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will come out on top," said Azam Khan.
'David Warner is a top-notch player'
Azam Khan, currently with the Desert Vipers in the ILT20, is super excited for his team to hit the field at Dubai International Stadium this Sunday to take on David Warner's Dubai Capitals in the final.
The Desert Vipers made it to the big game after beating the Sharjah Warriors in the playoffs. Azam really shone in that match, pulling off two amazing catches that had everyone talking.
"ILT20 is unique because each team has nine international players. If you compare it to leagues like the IPL, PSL, or BBL, they only have four. It really ramps up the competition. Plus, when the impact sub comes in, it adds another layer of challenge," he explained.
"David Warner is a top-notch player. I always say it’s not just about the big names. Warner is fantastic, but it all comes down to how well you prepare. He’s just a person like the rest of us, and on any given day, anyone can turn the game around," he added.
Azam also thinks that the ILT20 is a great opportunity for young cricketers in the UAE to grow and showcase their skills.
"There are plenty of talented players in the UAE. With so many international stars in this tournament, our players can learn a lot and really improve," Azam said.
