The IPL 2024 season witnessed T20 cricket achieving unprecedented heights with remarkable scoring performances. In IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad maintained their momentum from the previous season, starting strong against Rajasthan Royals, and expectations are high for their continued success this season.

Last year, SRH recorded the highest team total of 287, narrowly missing the chance to surpass it with a score of 286 against RR.

Delhi Capitals are poised to commence their IPL 2025 journey on Monday, facing off against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam. In anticipation of the match, DC’s newly appointed captain, Axar Patel, remarked, “Cricket has undergone significant changes in recent times.”

“Currently, the IPL predominantly favours batsmen, with an emphasis on boundaries. Therefore, we must adapt as a team. Ultimately, I aim to keep things straightforward. As captain, I have communicated to the team that cricket is a game, and simplicity is key. A well-executed yorker is effective, and if the execution is sound, success will follow. I am not overcomplicating strategies; I simply encourage them to maintain simplicity, which will be my approach throughout the tournament.”

‘We have to change’: Axar Patel

Axar Patel emphasized the need for change, stating, “Last season, under Pant’s leadership, DC struggled, finishing sixth with 14 points. Pant has been captain since 2021 but has faced challenges in that role.”

Reflecting on lessons learned from Pant’s tenure, Axar noted, “We gained insights from last season, recognizing that cricket has evolved significantly. It is essential to stay ahead of the game rather than merely reacting. For instance, during the powerplay, we don’t always need to focus on swinging the ball or bowling length deliveries; we can incorporate slower balls early on. There is no one-size-fits-all strategy for any batsman; we must adjust our plans based on the situation, a lesson I took from last season.”

With Pant's exit, DC has secured a direct replacement in KL Rahul, who previously captained LSG. Meanwhile, Pant has transitioned to LSG following the IPL auction in Jeddah.
