On Friday, the Australian cricket team donned black armbands as they stepped onto the field for Day 1 of the pink-ball Test against India in Adelaide. This gesture was in honor of Phil Hughes, the Australian cricketer who sadly lost his life after being struck by a bouncer during a domestic first-class game back in 2014. Before the match, a minute of silence was held in Adelaide to pay respects to his memory.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley mentioned earlier that this will be a moment for many who knew and respected Phillip Hughes to reflect. He talked about honoring Hughes during the pink-ball Test.

"We aimed to make sure the Hughes family felt at ease with any tributes, so we can properly celebrate Phillip’s life and his amazing accomplishments."

Hughes died from a neck injury.

Hughes had played 26 Tests for Australia and was a key player in the team during the longest format of the game when he tragically passed away. He was struck in an unprotected area under his helmet, near his neck, by a bouncer while playing for South Australia against New South Wales, and sadly, he died two days later.

The incident sent shockwaves through the global cricket community, and the loss of the talented left-hander, who was only 25, hit his teammates and fans hard. Hughes was seen as one of the most beloved and promising players in the Australian squad, celebrated for his vibrant spirit and commitment to cricket.

Hughes' family has kept his legacy alive by staying active in the management of his Angus cattle farm, Four 0 Eight, located on the north coast of New South Wales. His untimely death left the cricket community trying to figure out how to move forward after such a significant loss.

In a heartfelt tribute, he was named Australia's 13th man for the next Test in Adelaide, where fans paid their respects with 63 seconds of applause before the game started, a touching way to honor a man whose impact on the sport will always be remembered.
