Marcus Stoinis has declared his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs), effective immediately, thus concluding a decade-long tenure in the 50-over format. The all-rounder, who represented Australia in 74 ODIs, will remain available for selection in T20 Internationals. Stoinis made his ODI debut against England at Old Trafford in 2015.

He was part of Australia's squad for the Champions Trophy but will now be replaced.

"Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an extraordinary journey, and I am thankful for every moment spent in the green and gold. Representing my country at the highest level is a memory I will always treasure," Stoinis remarked.

"This was not an easy choice, but I believe it is the appropriate time for me to step back from ODIs and concentrate fully on the next phase of my career. I have a wonderful relationship with Ron (Andrew McDonald) and have greatly valued his support.

"I will be supporting the team during their tour in Pakistan."

Stoinis was a pivotal member of Australia's victorious 2023 ODI World Cup squad in India. He concluded his ODI career with a total of 1,495 runs, achieving the highest score of 146 against New Zealand at Eden Park, where he also took three wickets in that match.

In terms of bowling, Stoinis claimed 48 wickets in ODIs. In 2018, he was honoured as the country's ODI Cricketer of the Year.

His decision to retire from ODIs comes as Stoinis aims to focus on the shorter format of the game, where his power-hitting and all-round capabilities are highly esteemed.

Andrew McDonald, presently part of the Australian Test team competing in the second Test at Galle before their upcoming tour to Pakistan later this month, expressed his admiration for the formidable allrounder who participated in 74 One Day Internationals over nearly ten years.

"Stoin has been an essential component of our ODI framework for the last decade," McDonald remarked.

"His contributions as a player have been invaluable, and he is also a remarkable individual to have within the team. He possesses natural leadership qualities, enjoys widespread popularity among his peers, and is an outstanding person.

"He deserves recognition for his ODI career and all of his accomplishments."
