Jannik Sinner has adjusted his schedule following his victory at the Australian Open 2025, where he secured his second consecutive title. He has withdrawn from his upcoming tournament, citing the necessity for rest after an intense two weeks of competition in Melbourne. The Italian player triumphed over second seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets during the final held at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday, marking his third Grand Slam title.
After the Melbourne event, Sinner was expected to compete at the Rotterdam Open, a tournament he won last year by defeating Australia's Alex de Minaur with a score of 7-5, 6-4. However, it has now been officially announced that the 23-year-old will not participate in the 2025 edition of the ATP 500.
In his statement, Sinner remarked: "After discussions with my team, we made the difficult choice to withdraw from the ABN AMRO Open. My body requires time to recuperate after the extensive competition in Australia."
He added, "I cherish the memories of winning the title in front of the wonderful crowds at Rotterdam Ahoy last year and look forward to returning in the future."
In response to Sinner's announcement, Rotterdam Open tournament director Richard Krajicek expressed disappointment over Sinner's absence from the event. "The Australian Open was a long and challenging experience for Jannik," Krajicek stated. "It is unfortunate for both him and us that his exertions are preventing him from competing in Rotterdam."
With Sinner's withdrawal, Carlos Alcaraz, who faced a quarterfinal defeat at the Australian Open against an injured Novak Djokovic, will take the top seed position. The Spaniard will be joined by notable players such as Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur, and Andrey Rublev, along with former champions Felix Auger-Aliassime and Stan Wawrinka. Additionally, Grigor Dimitrov has also withdrawn from the tournament, leading to the inclusion of Jakub Mensik and Roberto Bautista Agut as replacements for both the Bulgarian and Sinner.
