Australia's captain Pat Cummins gave a nod to India's all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, who just announced his retirement from international cricket effective immediately. Ashwin shared that his time as an Indian cricketer wrapped up on Wednesday (December 18) after the third Test against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane ended in a draw, largely due to the relentless rain. Cummins praised Ashwin's impressive career, calling him "a fantastic player" who has shone on the global stage.

"He's been an incredible player everywhere he’s played—there aren’t many finger spinners with that kind of longevity," Cummins told the media.

The Aussie captain also referred to Ashwin as "one of the all-time greats" in cricket. "He'll definitely be remembered as one of the all-time greats. We have huge respect in our dressing room for the career he’s had."

People are sending in their heartfelt tributes for Ashwin.

Ashwin kicked off his Test career in 2011 against the West Indies and proved to be quite the batsman too, racking up 3,503 runs, including six centuries and 14 fifties.

With 765 wickets to his name, Ashwin stands as India's second-highest wicket-taker, just behind Anil Kumble.

In 106 Test matches, he has claimed 537 wickets at an impressive average of 24, placing him seventh on the all-time wicket-takers list.

Gambhir expressed his admiration, saying, "Watching you evolve from a young bowler into a modern cricket legend is a privilege I wouldn't trade for anything! Future generations of bowlers will definitely say they were inspired to bowl because of you! You will be missed, brother."

Ravi Shastri, the former coach of India, praised Ashwin for his talent and impact on Indian cricket.

"Hey Ash, huge congrats on an amazing career, my friend. You were a key player during my time as coach and brought so much to the game with your skills. Wishing you all the best," Shastri shared, now busy with commentary for the five-match series.

Anil Kumble, India's all-time leading wicket-taker, also celebrated Ashwin's remarkable journey.

"Your path has been truly remarkable! With more than 700 international wickets and a sharp cricketing intellect, you’re among the best to ever play. Cheers to a fantastic career, and here’s to an even brighter future ahead!" Kumble expressed.
