Ashwin Interrupts Panelist Discussing MS Dhoni During Live Broadcast Following CSK YouTube Controversy
12 days ago | 5 Views
Ravichandran Ashwin, the spinner for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), interrupted a panellist during a live broadcast on his YouTube channel while the discussion was focused on MS Dhoni. This incident occurred shortly after Ashwin declared that his channel would refrain from covering CSK's matches. The 38-year-old made this commitment following a controversy that arose during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
In his latest video, Ashwin reviewed several recent matches from the 18th edition of the T20 tournament but deliberately avoided mentioning CSK's recent performances.
During the discussion, a panellist highlighted the significance of effective leadership, and Ashwin appeared uneasy when Dhoni's name was mentioned.
"I'm delighted that you secured the victory. Ashwin, you've led your team to success in the TNPL. Leadership is crucial, and figures like Sanju, Shreyas Iyer, and Thala Dhoni exemplify that," the panellist remarked.
In response, Ashwin interjected, "Sshhh. Ssshhhh." The panellist pointed out that while Ashwin could not comment on Dhoni and CSK on his channel, he was free to express his views as a member of the audience.
"You shouldn't be the one speaking. I can speak. I'm an audience member," he asserted. Ashwin then clarified that he had never discussed his team, even during his time with the Rajasthan Royals, suggesting that this situation is not exclusive to CSK.
"I've never commented on my team in RR either," Ashwin stated.
All you need to know about the CSK and Ashwin YouTube controversy
The entire controversy originated from a discussion among panellists on Ashwin's channel regarding CSK's fixtures in IPL 2025. During this conversation, former South African player and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) analyst Prasanna Agoram raised concerns about CSK's choice to include Noor Ahmad in the squad, given the presence of Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin.
Following this, CSK's head coach, Stephen Fleming, was questioned about the implications of Ashwin's channel discussing IPL fixtures on the team's dressing room dynamics. Fleming responded, "I have no idea. I wasn't even aware that he had a channel, so I am not familiar with that information. It's irrelevant."
The day after Fleming's comments, Ashwin declared that his channel would refrain from covering any CSK matches or related content for the 18th edition of the IPL.
"In light of the discussions on this platform over the past week, we want to be cautious about how our content may be perceived and have decided to withdraw from covering CSK games, including both previews and reviews, for the remainder of this season," Ashwin stated in a message.
He further clarified, "The opinions shared by our guests do not represent my personal views. We are grateful to all who engage thoughtfully with the essence of the show."
Recently, Ashwin was excluded from CSK's playing XI for the match against Lucknow Super Giants, which MS Dhoni's team won by five wickets.
