Ashwin Debunks Fake Quote on Virat Kohli's Retirement: 'Creative Storytelling' in the AI Era

Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin called out an X account for posting a fake quote attributed to him about the retirement plans of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. As India gears up to take on New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final, all eyes are on the two senior players—Kohli and Rohit. The team has been undefeated in the tournament so far, with Kohli making significant contributions through his match-winning performances against Pakistan and Australia, while Rohit has consistently set the pace with explosive starts.

Both players have already announced their retirements from T20 internationals after the 2024 T20 World Cup, and they’re looking to secure another ICC title on Sunday to further enhance their impressive careers.

An X account shared a fabricated quote from Ashwin, suggesting that Kohli might retire soon while Rohit aims to continue playing for India and target the 2023 ODI World Cup.

"Ravi Ashwin said - As far as I know, Rohit is targeting the 2027 ODI World Cup, while you may see Virat Kohli hanging up his boots soon because he wants to spend more time with his young family. That’s what Virat discussed with me a few months back. (Via his YT channel)," a user named Vishu posted.

Ashwin didn’t hold back, criticizing the account for spreading false information with him as the supposed source.

"Heartwarming to see humans still excelling at creative storytelling in this AI era. Nice script, but maybe check with me next time before casting me in the lead role?" Ashwin responded on X.

Ashwin mentioned that the last time India played in Dubai was during the COVID pandemic

In his latest YouTube video, Ashwin took a jab at the critics who are calling out the Indian team for playing all their matches in Dubai, claiming it's a 'home advantage.'

"I just have to laugh at the questions aimed at our captain and coaches about this 'home advantage' nonsense. Back in the 2009 Champions Trophy, South Africa played all their games at the same place and still didn’t make it to the final. That’s not on them. The truth is, India has played some top-notch cricket and earned their spot in the final. The last time India was in Dubai was during COVID, and since then, teams like New Zealand, England, and South Africa have also played there," Ashwin shared on his channel.
