Veteran India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin recently praised a young Karnataka batter, also named Ravichandran, as a player to watch, following his impressive performances in the domestic circuit. Although Ashwin retired from international cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he has remained active on his YouTube channel, sharing his insights into Indian cricket.

Ashwin, who closely follows the domestic game, singled out Ravichandran Smaran as a standout player but clarified that, despite sharing the same name, they are not related. "Ravichandran Smaran is not my relative. He has the same name as mine, but we're not connected. Please don't assume otherwise, as I praise him. It's not unusual in South India," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Smaran has been in sensational form, boasting an impressive average of 72.16 with 433 runs in 10 List-A matches so far. In his most recent Ranji Trophy match against Punjab, he played a magnificent double century, leading Karnataka to a dominant victory.

'I'm sure a lot of IPL teams would have noticed him'

The veteran spinner also commended Smaran for his outstanding domestic cricket performances and hinted that several IPL teams would be closely monitoring him in the future.

"He performed exceptionally well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and I'm sure many IPL teams have taken notice. He's a left-handed batter from Karnataka, and he did well in the Karnataka Premier League too. His consistency continued in the Ranji Trophy, where he scored a double century," Ashwin remarked.

Meanwhile, Ashwin made waves in the cricket world by announcing his retirement from international cricket following the draw in the third Test at Brisbane, a match in which he did not play. He had previously featured in the pink-ball Test at Adelaide Oval, scoring 29 runs across both innings and taking one wicket. Prior to this series, Ashwin was part of India's surprising home Test series defeat to New Zealand, their first in 12 years. Despite this setback, Ashwin had been a cornerstone of India's dominant Test performances at home.
