Ashwin Applauds Jadeja: ‘A Gifted Star Deserving More Credit’

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been an integral asset to the national cricket team for over ten years, demonstrating excellence across all three formats through his remarkable performances. Whether contributing with the bat, the ball, or his dynamic fielding, Jadeja has established himself as one of India's most dependable cricketers. Nevertheless, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin contends that the Saurashtra all-rounder does not receive the recognition he rightfully deserves.
In the first ODI against England in Nagpur, Jadeja once again showcased his value by delivering a match-winning performance. He claimed three wickets for just 26 runs in his nine overs, significantly aiding in limiting the opposition to a modest total of 248.
After the match, Ashwin, during his YouTube show Ash Ki Baat, praised his former teammate while highlighting the tendency to overlook Jadeja's contributions.
“Our media often fails to acknowledge when a player excels. In defeat, everyone is labeled a villain. He took the wicket of Joe Root (in the 1st IND vs ENG ODI). Jadeja frequently goes unnoticed. He is a ‘Jackpot Jango.’ He excels in the field, bowls effectively, and performs well under pressure. We do not give Jadeja the recognition he deserves,” Ashwin stated.
'Jadeja is way more gifted than I ever can be'
Ashwin further elaborated on Jadeja’s innate abilities, even asserting that the left-arm all-rounder possesses greater talent than himself.
"Jadeja is far more talented than I could ever be. He is a natural athlete. His primary strengths lie in his physical fitness. He is inherently fit. Even at this stage in his career, he can cover the entire field from long on to deep square leg while positioned at mid-wicket. I would not be surprised, and I would be more than pleased for him," Ashwin remarked.
Jadeja’s recent achievement of reaching 600 international wickets has placed him among an elite group. He is now the fifth Indian bowler to reach this milestone, joining the ranks of legendary figures such as Anil Kumble (953), Ashwin (765), Harbhajan Singh (707), and Kapil Dev (697).
His record comprises 323 wickets in Test matches, 220 in One Day Internationals, and 54 in Twenty20 Internationals, thereby establishing his legacy as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of Indian cricket.
